Astro IIDC works with a wide variety of low and high end, color or monochrome, 8 or 16 bit FireWire 400 or FireWire 800 cameras. It has a simple intuitive interface, can record movies, grab frames, grab averaged frames, grab sums of frames, has extensive Altivec optimization for real time processing for flat field, dark frame, image alignment and stacking, supports movie recording as fast as 240 frames per second to disk or as long as 1 hour per frame. The application utilizes our industrial strength Altivec optimized IIDC/DCAM Version 2.0 Framework to control the camera and extracts the raw bayer or monochrome images from the CCD.

Version 4.08.00:
  • Completely re-wrote and re-threaded the 16 bit (i.e. Mono16, RGB48, ARGB64, AlphaMono32 and Bayer16) and the 8 bit (i.e. Mono8, ARGB32 types and Bayer 8) stacking code to use up to 16 CPU cores concurrently, instead of just two cores.
  • Increased number of camera settings that are saved from 10 to 20. Only the first 10 have short cut keys. All settings can be applied by via AppleScript.
  • Rewrote the Sharpness Estimation code to use SSE3 / Altivec processing to speed it up. Unless your using an SSD Drive that can read at rates exceeding 250 megabytes per second, the Apple movie frame reading code has now become the slowest part of the process and there is pretty much nothing more I can speed up for it.
  • Included newest (3.01.00) version of our Bayer Codec with a few speed improvements of 16 bit bayer movies with x86 Macs. If you have a color IIDC camera, then run the "BayerInstaller.pkg" to install it.
  • Added support for IIDC 1.3.2 Cameras that have up to thirty two Format 7 modes. Pre 1.3.2 IIDC  cameras only support seven Format 7 modes.
  • Updated 144 page manual with new information.
  • Adds support for 12 bit Monochrome or 12 Bayer video modes in IIDC 1.3.2, which can improve frame rate and maximize bandwidth.
  • Addressed some issues with Real Time scheduling of threads when unloading FireWire data packets
  • Fixed bug where the "Camera Display Format:" may not be remember what your last choice was between launches or initial camera access. Primarily this happened with cameras that can display both color and monochrome video for the same Video format.
  • Fixed bug where "Camera Display Format" was not being set when you apply camera settings manually or via an Apple script.
  • Fixed a bug in the code for Removing picks of stars in Batch Photometry.
  • Fixed a bug with Long exposure packet size optimization calculation code.
  • Fixed a design flaw where when doing Batch Photometry, Asteroids or Comets that pass within 15 pixels of a star would fail to analyze or track because the code could not decide which object to use. The new limit is 3 pixels.
  • Fixed a crashing bug at start up for cameras that don't support hardware Auto Exposure.
  • Fixed a bug with reliably detecting whether a Camera does support Trigger Pins 3 and 4 or not.
  • Fixed a bug where Apple script command for setting "apply setting 10" was being ignored and only 1 to 9 could be applied.
